Flack: (Saving) on expenses - Norfolk Arms, London WC1

Reviewer: Louisa Osmond, associate director, Eulogy

- What's it good for?

Choosing small sharing dishes from the extensive tapas menu is an easy way to get the conversation flowing. The ambience is perfect for an informal lunch or supper - enough noise to make it feel buzzy, but not overwhelming. Additionally, as it is slightly out of medialand, you can talk freely without fear of loitering ears.

- Signature dishes?

Tapas. The Valencian carrots are a triumph. It is an earthenware plate of marinated chopped carrots, but, oh my god, they are delicious.

Do not miss the grilled squid, stuffed chillies and pork belly. For pudding, you must have the chocolate truffles ... indescribably yummy.

- Who's the boss?

Michael Kittos.

- Tips please?

If you are planning to go for dinner, it is probably best to book and ask to be seated at the large square table at the side of the bar away from the entrance. Tables outdoors are spacious and pleasant.

- What's the damage?

Four people with wine costs £70-£100.

Norfolk Arms, 28 Leigh Street, London, WC1H 9EP. 020 7388 3937.
