City & Corporate: Travelport in comms hire

Travelport, the travel technology firm that postponed a £1.2bn London IPO earlier this year, is understood to have hired Hogarth's Julian Walker to head its comms function.

The move to bring in an experienced financial comms specialist will be seen as an indication that the firm's private equity majority owner, Blackstone Group, is continuing to explore options to cut Travelport's $4.1bn (£2.7bn) debt burden.

This month's announcement that rival travel reservations firm Amadeus is pushing ahead with its EUR1.36bn (£1.2bn) IPO has promoted press speculation that Travelport could revive its flotation plans.

Walker, currently a managing director at Hogarth, has more than 20 years of City PR experience. He joined Hogarth in 2007 from Gainsborough Advisory Services, the agency he co-founded in 2003.
