Diary: The theme restaurant business is taken to tusk with London’s latest eatery

’Waiter, there’s a barking tree frog in my soup.’

’Waiter, there’s a barking tree frog in my soup.’

We’ve had fashion and sport, now hungry punters can don their pith

helmets, grab their machetes and enter the jungle themed restaurant.

Glendola Leisure is shipping in a boatload of fake monkeys, a life size

elephant and acres of foliage ready for the July launch of Europe’s

first Rainforest Cafe.

The 340-seat restaurant and accompanying shop, based in London’s

Trocadero, will also house real squawking parrots, squirming snakes and

slithering fish.

As if that wasn’t scary enough visitors will be surrounded by the sound

of thunder, flashes of lightening and experience the odd torrential

downpour.

The company has even hired a curator to look after the place and give

mini-talks about rain forests.

Donation boxes for charities which are working to save the rain forests

will be scattered around the ’jungle’.

’It will have all the smells and noises of a rain forest and there are

several rain forest-type dishes,’ enthuses the cafe’s media relations

woman Jacqueline Richardson.

Diners can choose the exotic sounding ’rumble in the jungle’ (roast

turkey and salad) and eat ’monkey business’ for desert (’an amazon

portion of coconut breat pudding’) unless they get eaten first. ’It will

be different,’ Richardson says diplomatically.
