Dr Martin Smith, who left his job as chairman of lobbying firm GPC
last July has re-surfaced at financial PR firm Brunswick.
Smith joined the firm as a full partner last month. It is the latest
evidence of Brunswick’s determination to break into the public affairs
consultancy market. The agency is known to have approached several
senior figures at other agencies and is thought to be particularly keen
to recruit those with a Labour Party background.
Simon Walker, its former head of public affairs, took a leave of absence
last April to work for John Major at the No 10 policy unit. He is due to
return to Brunswick after the election.
Smith said the job had appealed to him because its approach was
’completely different’ from that of a traditional lobbying company in
that public affairs is one of range of disciplines it could call on for
any of its 150 clients.
