Integrated PR company Consolidated Communications is moving into direct marketing.

Integrated PR company Consolidated Communications is moving into

direct marketing.

The agency has appointed former Leo Burnett Direct account director Mike

Chattey to its board. Chattey, 36, arrived this week to head a team of

three agency staff.

At first Chattey will work for Consolidated’s existing clients Virgin

Direct and Walt Disney Home Video. He will then start pitching against

specialist direct marketing agencies for his own direct marketing and

sales promotion contracts.

While at Leo Burnett Direct Chattey worked for United Distillers, South

African Airways and Kellogg’s.

Consolidated’s board already has an advertising expert in the form of

ex-Saatchi and Saatchi board member Henrietta Pullen and former Heinz

brand manager Tom Wells. The remaining three directors have conventional

PR backgrounds.

Agency managing director Alastair Gornall said: ’a growing number of

clients are looking for more below-the-line experience. The whole market

is blurring.’

Gornall predicted the new division will contribute 20 per cent of

overall income within the space of a year. The 44-strong agency recorded

a fee income figure of pounds 1,662,340 in 1995.
