Manchester 2002, the organising committee for the next Commonwealth
Games, is looking for a sport and culture enthusiast to head up its
public relations activities. This is the first in-house PR appointment,
although local PR agency Mason Williams has been working on the pounds
60 million project since last spring. ’There will be quite a sizeable
budget: PR is a very integral part of our communications strategy,’ said
committee chief executive James Seligman. ’The primary target areas are
the commercial sector, to drive sponsorship, and consumers.’ Manchester
City Airport and local law firm Addleshaw Booth are already supporting
the games which will be the largest multi-sport event ever in the UK.
