DTW has announced the promotion of director Chris Taylor to MD. He replaces founder Pete Whelan, who steps up to chairman. Taylor has been part of the DTW team for six years and led a management buy-out in 2008.

The CIPR Excellence Awards 2010 shortlist includes Southwark Council for its Education: Aim High! campaign; RICS' Responsible Business, Responsible Employer campaign, and Active Stockport Strides Ahead by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. Fenland District Council's David Hamilton is shortlisted for outstanding young communicator.

Beattie Communications has appointed a former editor of The Herald as its head of public sector. Charles McGhee will head the PR consultancy's public sector team in Scotland. McGhee was also editor of Glasgow's Evening Times.

Westminster City Council has become one of the first councils to publicise salary packages of senior management online. Director of comms and strategy Alex Aiken is listed as earning £124,602 with a deferred bonus of £12,846.

Kingston Hospital NHS Trust has appointed Bridgette Godden as a comms manager on maternity cover from NHS Kensington and Chelsea.
