Charles Barker BSMG has been appointed to handle PR for the Mersey

Partnership, an account believed to hold fees of about pounds 120,000,

following a two-way competitive pitch against incumbent agency

Fishburn-Hedges.

The Mersey Partnership, a public-private alliance, set up in April 1993,

has until now concentrated on attracting inward investment to the

Merseyside region. But from next month, the partnership will take

responsibility for travel and leisure promotion from the North West

Tourist Board.

The two-year account will be handled jointly by Charles Barker’s

corporate affairs and travel and leisure divisions. In its drive to

promote tourism and leisure in Merseyside, the agency will focus

particularly on the conference market, short breaks and the

international leisure market, as well as attracting investment to the

port of Liverpool.

Christopher Gibaud, chief executive of the partnership, said: ’We are

now entering a new phase of our development and, while profiling of

Merseyside as an investment location will continue to be a key priority,

we need to focus more on the region’s renaissance in quality of life.’
