The National Lottery Charities Board has brought in five PR

agencies and a Government agency to handle the regional announcements of

pounds 100 million worth of grants this week.

The Central Office of Information has been briefed to co-ordinate local

and regional media coverage in four of the nine regions: the South West,

North West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside.

The South East region will be covered by Southampton-based Resourcebase;

Greater London by London-based Drum Venture; the Eastern region by

Cambridge-based Kartupelis Associates; the East Midlands by

Nottingham-based PR Principles; and the North East by Bergmans Public

Relations Consultants in Newcastle. The board saw 30 agencies across the

nine regions before making its selection.

Paul Hensby, director of communications for the National Lottery

Charities Board, said: ’The agencies have been briefed to make sure

local and regional media can talk to grant recipiants.’ The national

media will be handled by the board’s internal media relations team.

Each region will receive between pounds 10 and pounds 15 million, with

the highest single grant for pounds 1 million going to homeless

organisation Shelter, to fund its work throughout England.
