European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery hires Burson-Marsteller for PR support

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery has appointed Burson-Marsteller to deliver a European public awareness campaign.

The campaign will mark the 20th anniversary of the first LASIK surgery in 1990 by the Greek ophthalmic surgeon Ioannis Pallikaris. It will aim to highlight that LASIK is a safe and effective form of vision correction when carried out by a qualified and experienced laser eye surgeon.

The campaign will target 25-40 year olds throughout Europe using digital and traditional media.

‘This is the first time ESCRS has embarked on an awareness campaign with the general public,' said ESCRS president Josep Guell. ‘We are implementing this campaign to ensure that people considering laser vision correction have access to accurate, up-to-date information.'

Currently 3.5 million LASIK surgeries are performed every year in Europe.
