Anyone reading Michael Bland’s endorsement of Peter Walker for the
presidency (PR Week, 20 October) could be excused for inferring that
Bland knew both candidates.
He hardly knows Simon Lewis, but that does not prevent him from implying
that Simon’s only merit is youth. Those who know Simon will agree that
few could match his intellectual ability and he combines an exceptional
mind with a personality that exudes leadership qualities.
Simon has charisma. He is also 36 - an age that is ideal for inspiring
younger members of the Institute and old enough to gain respect from
seasoned practitioners.
I am delighted at the prospect of a leader who has already turned around
a major PR group - city and financial - and will be young enough to make
a major contribution to the Institute in the run-up to the millenium and
into the next century.
