Factor 50 kicks off lobbying and awareness campaign to back sunbed ban

Skin cancer charity Factor 50 has kicked off a lobbying and awareness campaign as a parliamentary Bill to ban sunbeds for under-18s reaches a critical stage.

The charity is asking MPs in the North West in the run-up to the general election to publicly declare their support for the Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill, which passed its second reading in the House of Lords on 30 March.

The Bill was introduced in the House of Commons in December last year by Julie Morgan, Labour MP for Cardiff North, and sponsored in the House of Lords by Baroness Finlay of Llandaff.

Factor 50 will also try to place a series of case studies of people affected by skin cancer in local media, in an effort to drum up public support for the Bill.

The charity will use the coverage as an opportunity to raise funds for further research into the disease.
