Compassion in World Farming’s hard-hitting campaign to ban live animal
exports picked up the Best Environmental Media Relations Campaign award
at this week’s British Environment and Media Awards.
The campaign used lobbying, public demonstrations, video and media
relations to raise public awareness of the issue, and to put pressure on
the Government to ban the exports of live animals for slaughter.
The judging panel included Observer deputy editor Nigel Billen, and Hill
and Knowlton European chief executive officer Paul Taaffe. The award was
sponsored by PR Week.
Taaffe praised the results achieved by the CIWF in-house PR team. ‘We
felt it was a modern campaign which used media relations very
effectively,’ said Taaffe.
Shortlisted entries included the World Society for the Protection of
Animals, for its campaign on the plight of great apes in Africa, and the
RSPB for its ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’ campaign.
