Diary: Blank checked by QE2 photo inopportunity

While the Camera Van (above) seemed like the perfect vehicle to steal photo opportunities for publicising National Photo Week, which starts on 19 July, its arrival in the UK which was orchestrated by the Wright Partnership didn’t quite go as planned.

While the Camera Van (above) seemed like the perfect vehicle to

steal photo opportunities for publicising National Photo Week, which

starts on 19 July, its arrival in the UK which was orchestrated by the

Wright Partnership didn’t quite go as planned.

The van was created by Californian artist Harrod Blank, who agreed to

bring it over to the UK for a ’Drive Thru’ exhibition as part of the

celebrations.

The van is covered with over two thousand cameras - ten working, 40

flashing.

Blank set off from his native San Francisco to New York, intending to

board the QE2 and sail to the UK, only to find that once he drove up the

ramp the the van wouldn’t fit.

But fear not - we won’t be deprived of the chance to see the Camera Van

and its photographs as Blank has found an alternative ship to transport

his creation. Much to the relief of the Wright Partnership, which will

eventually get to promote its arrival.

’He’s arriving on 3 July at either Felixstowe or Southampton,’ said

account director Kerrie Finch. ’So we’ve been charged with finding an

appropriate parking lot for it to stay at once it gets to London.’ Any

offers?
