Porter joined the educational charity last week in the newly created role. She reports to director general Mark Littlewood.
Porter formerly worked at UK technology trade association Intellect as programme manager. Her role included responsibility for energy and environment policy.
She also previously worked at public policy think-tank Maxim Institute in New Zealand as communications manager.
‘The current economic climate makes the importance of communicating free market ideas more critical than ever,' said Porter. ‘The IEA is a vital and respected organisation, renowned for the quality of its research.'
