The Women of the Year Lunch was set up in 1955 to celebrate women’s achievements and award prizes to outstanding candidates. Past award recipients include the Kids Company’s founder Camila Batmanghelidjh, the Rwandan genocide survivor and campaigner Mary Blewitt and Vera Lynn.
Deliberate PR MD Benjamin Webb said he had been hired to ‘differentiate the lunch from other award ceremonies that award accolades to celebrities with little or no apparent merit or logic'.
The agency will promote the stories behind some of the women present at the ceremony, and fulfil the requirements of sponsors including Sacla, Good Housekeeping and Barclays. It will also emphasise why the ceremony is still relevant.
Webb added: ‘This is the first time that a man has been entrusted with PR for the event.’
