Jacques steps down at Indie
The Independent’s deputy editor Martin Jacques has resigned amid a
further round of senior editorial changes which sees assistant editor
Simon Kelner take over responsibility for features.
Corley in control of ITV factual
Paul Corley has been appointed as ITV’s new controller of network
factual programmes. Currently managing director of Carlton Broadcasting,
he replaces the outgoing Stuart Prebble.
ITC rebuke over products
The Independent Television Commission has rebuked ITV companies LWT,
Meridian and HTV for breaches of ‘undue prominence’ regulations aimed at
preventing product placement on TV programmes.
Times hails on-line success
News International has claimed more than 38,000 readers registered to
use the on-line version of The Times and Sunday Times during the first
week of its launch. The on-line newspapers launched on 7 January as a
free service to Internet users.
Ray performs artistic role
Robin Ray has joined cable arts TV station Performance as its artistic
director. He joins from his previous role as music consultant to
Classic FM, and begins work during a relaunch of the station, bought by
Associated Newspapers 14 months ago.
Yuille to Sunday Business
Mike Yuille, City editor of The Lawyer magazine, is to join soon to
launch weekly business title Sunday Business as legal correspondent.
New marketer for ITVA
The ITV Association has appointed Sam Carter as its marketing manager.
She will begin work at the ITV Network Centre on 26 February, reporting
to ITVA director Barry Cox.
ITN shrugs off strike threat
ITN has hit back at the threat of strike action by technicians and
journalists this week over changes in work contracts. Stewart Purvis,
chief executive of ITN, said any strike action would be resisted and
that programme schedules would go ahead as normal.
