Roman will report to Lenovo president and COO Rory Read. He begins his new role on 29 March. He assumes the CMO position that has been vacant since previous incumbent Deepak Advani returned to IBM last year. The appointment was confirmed by Lenovo executive director of external comms, Raymond Gorman.

At HP, Roman was responsible for advertising, media relations and marketing services at HP's PSG unit, which includes business and consumer PCs, mobile computing devices and workstations.

Roman oversaw HP's 2006 ‘The Computer is Personal Again' campaign. Prior to joining the company, he held senior roles at Apple in Europe, including president of worldwide advertising and brand marketing.

An HP spokesperson declined to comment. Roman's decision follows the departure of his boss, HP PSG global marketing SVP Satjiv Chahil earlier this year.
