NEW YORK: Asian airline Cathay Pacific Airways has appointed Hill
and Knowlton as its retained agency for the US, replacing two-year
incumbent Ruder Finn.
H&K pitched against Lou Hammond Associates, KWE and Courtney
Communications for the account, to handle consumer and crisis PR and
H&K will work on public affairs when, as is thought likely, the US
government begins to look into competition issues in the domestic
US airlines are increasingly negotiating joint marketing for domestic
flights. Some airlines share air miles programmes, while others have
gone as far as selling seats on each others’ flights.
The agency will report to Cathay’s communications manager for the US and
Latin America, Gus Whitcomb.
Cathay’s worldwide PR is run by corporate communications manager Quince
Chong from Hong Kong.
