Japanese investment bank Nomura International’s Principal Finance
Group, which specialises in acquiring companies, is seeking a public
affairs agency to ensure the smooth passage of its deals in the UK and
the rest of Europe.
The group invited eight agencies to present their credentials and has
reached a three-strong shortlist consisting of APCO, Bell Pottinger
Public Affairs and GJW.
Nomura Principal Finance has used Bell Pottinger Consultants for
strategic communications advice since early 1996. The group appointed
Financial Dynamics for City PR earlier this year and has used public
affairs agencies including Bell Pottinger Public Affairs on an ad hoc
basis for strategic political advice.
Stephen Jolly, Nomura International’s corporate communications director,
said: ’We will be appointing an agency on a permanent basis to advise us
on how we position our deals politically. We’re looking for people who
understand the legislative process outside the UK as well.’
Nomura Principal Finance has bought companies including Ministry of
Defence-owned property group Annington Homes, which it now leases to the
