Italian jeweller Bulgari, a company listed on the Milan stock

exchange, has hired Ludgate Communications to increase its profile among

investors.

Bulgari listed on the Milan stock exchange in 1995, but its shares are

also traded over the counter in the UK, where the majority of its

shareholders are.

Ludgate will target business media outside Milan, working from London,

and from New York and Hong Kong via affiliate agencies. This is

Bulgari’s first international business media account, according to

Ludgate director Alex Mackey. ’They need to be better understood,’ he

said.

The company retains about 15 consumer PR agencies around the world,

which it co-ordinates from Rome.

Bulgari produce jewellery, watches, perfumes, and are about to launch a

range of silk scarves and ties.

Bulgari was founded in the 19th century and has a turnover of over

pounds 160 million. The company has 59 stores and is opening new outlets

at the rate of one a month.
