Hill and Knowlton do the Dunn thing in public affairs

Hill and Knowlton has poached Mario Dunn, head of policy at the Communications Workers Union, to join its public affairs and corporate policy division.

Hill and Knowlton has poached Mario Dunn, head of policy at the

Communications Workers Union, to join its public affairs and corporate

policy division.

Dunn was a key strategist on the union’s campaign to stop post office

privatisation in 1995. He also acted as an aide to Tony Blair during the

recent general election campaign.

Previously he was head of research at the union, after joining from

Business in the Community.

Dunn’s appointment comes two months after H&K lost Julian Eccles, its

senior associate director in the public affairs and corporate policy

group.

Eccles was poached by Chris Smith, the newly renamed Secretary of State

for Culture, Media and Sport, to be his special adviser.

Explaining his move, Dunn said that H&K’s reputation as a public affairs

company is ’second to none’. ’With the election of a Labour Government,

I believe I bring a strong understanding of the thinking and strategies

of the new administration,’ he said.
