Public sector agency DTW has formed a partnership with management consultancy PPL, aimed at supporting the public sector as it faces cutbacks in local service budgets.

PR professionals in the public sector face a huge increase in workload this year, at the same time as comms staff numbers are slashed.

DTW director Chris Taylor said: 'We are seeing evidence from our clients of 10 to 20 per cent cuts in communications teams, in preparation for the massive budget cuts that will hit local service organisations.

'The irony is that these cuts will create a huge demand for public consultation and communication, especially in local government, education, health and emergency services.'

The partnership is currently in talks with a number of local authorities and PCTs about piloting new approaches to service delivery.
