The ITV Network Centre has selected former Lawson Lucas Mendelsohn
consultant Nick Toon as its new public affairs head.
Toon starts on Monday and replaces Mark Gallagher, who left the network
after three years to head ITN’s media relations and public affairs (PR
Week, 19 March).
As public affairs head, Toon will report to corporate affairs controller
Sue Eustace and work alongside the four other members of her team.
Part of his brief will be to represent ITV in the debate over Home
Secretary Jack Straw’s new Freedom of Information bill.
As well as government relations, he will liaise with broadcast
regulators in areas such as the recent Independent Television Commission
consultation on sign language in broadcasting.
He will also work closely with public affairs staff in the separate ITV
companies, including fierce rivals Granada and Carlton, which dominate
Toon joined LLM two years ago and was the agency’s policy and research
He was previously a senior researcher at the BBC’s Millbank-based
political research unit for two years.
