Barr wins promotions post
The National Magazine Company has appointed Liz Barr, the ad director of
its Manchester office, to the new position of deputy director of
promotions reporting to Jennifer Sharp who heads the centralised
promotions department which was set up in January.
Prunty gets top Wedding job
Looks deputy editor Christine Prunty is joining IPC’s Wedding & Home
magazine as editor from 13 May replacing Debbie Djordjevic who has moved
to edit Homes and Ideas.
New image for computers
Business publisher MDI has launched Computer Generated Imaging, a trade
title for the UK and European computer graphics market. It will publish
six times a year and go monthly in 1997.
QVC celebrates sales leap
QVC, Britain’s only shopping channel saw net sales jump by 97 per cent
in the first quarter of 1996 to pounds 13.9 million. In the first three
months it gained 98,000 new customers, answered 1.5 million telephone
calls and shipped 796,000 items.
BBC wins Commonwealth
The BBC has secured TV and radio rights to the 1998 Commonwealth games
to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Media companies in danger
The danger of companies in the media sector failing during the next 12
months is higher than at the end of the last recession, according to
credit reference and risk management company CCN Group in an analysis of
the prospects of 50,000 British companies.
Landmark goes French
Landmark Travel Channel, owner of the UK-based cable and satellite
channel Travel, has developed Voyage, a new travel and leisure channel
for the French-speaking market. It will transmit from midday to midnight
Monday to Friday and from 8 am to midnight on weekends.
