PARIS: MS&L to rev up Walbro Automotive
Manning Selvage and Lee has beaten Burson-Marsteller to become Walbro
Automotive’s first PR consultancy in Europe. The US fuel systems
manufacturer started operations in Europe after buying Norwegian firm
Dyno Industrier last July and is keen to boost its profile among vehicle
engine manufacturers. Working with Anne-Catherine Polayes, Walbro’s
director of communications in Europe, the agency will run a business to
business programme in the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and
Norway, where Walbro runs factories. The account will be led out of
London by MS&L chairman Alasdair Sutherland.
STOCKHOLM: Nilson turns to publishing PR
Jane Nilson, a senior consultant with Jerry Bergstrom is quitting the
agency to become deputy public relations director for publishing house
Brabocker. Starting in June and reporting to Brabocker’s PR director
Berteil Svensson, Nilson will help promote the firm and its publications
- including Sweden’s national encyclopaedia - to the press and
MADRID: Sanchis swoops on MBO
Sanchis y Asociados has snapped up a 25.9 per cent share of PR agency
MBO Comunicacion and 50.9 per cent of the company’s voting rights.
Specialising in PR for large retailers and airline companies, MBO is
Spain’s fourth largest agency according to 1994 fee income. Sanchis y
Asociados is ranked third. The deal follows Sanchis’ 30 per cent
acquisition of financial PR shop Common Sense last month (PR Week, 23
February). President Jose Luis Sanchis said he was holding negotiations
with a further two agencies.
DUBLIN: Connolly to drive training at Carr
Carr Communications has hired Sean Connolly, former chief executive of
the Football Association of Ireland, as a senior training consultant.
Connolly, who was chief executive of Ireland’s Independent Radio and
Television Commission prior to the FAI, will offer media training and
public presentation advice to Carr clients, which include banks, local
authorities and IT firms.
MADRID: H&K serves a shot of bourbon PR
The Kentucky Distillers’ Association has turned to Hill and Knowlton to
help widen the appeal of bourbon among Spanish drinkers. The association
represents producers of brands such as Jack Daniels, Jim Bean and Wild
Turkey. Spain is the world’s second biggest consumer of dark spirits
with sales of 87 million bottles last year. H&K director Linda Ayares
said the PR campaign was part of an effort to push sales in the face of
competition from Scotch whisky and other variants.
LJUBLJANA: Agencies hot for PHARE deal
Local PR firms are vying for a 400,000 ecu (pounds 333,000) budget
contract from the European Union’s PHARE programme to promote
environmentally friendly heating methods to domestic users. Part of a
wider pounds 13 million programme funded by the World Bank, the 12-month
pilot campaign will encourage use of natural gas and shared heating
systems in the north-east region of Starejska.
