Opinion: From our Readers - CIPR code change is still under review

The article 'Lobbyists face CIPR exclusion' (News, 26 February) is purely speculative.

The CIPR is not looking to change its Code of Conduct. What we are doing is taking a leadership role with our partners in this drive for increased transparency in lobbying.

We have consulted members on the implementation of the UK Public Affairs Council, and the need for lobbyists to be registered and declare their clients. We are also looking at the implications that CIPR membership of the Public Affairs Council would have for our joining and renewals process. We will report back to members when comments on the consultation have been reviewed.

Keith Johnston, chair, CIPR Government Affairs Group.
