Two and a bit years ago, I remember having a conversation with a colleague about whether Twitter was going to become a significant news source. The debate was sparked by blogging guru Robert Scoble, who had suggested that in the future people would go to the micro-blogging site for news before they turned to mainstream media organisations.

As a recent convert to the iPhone, it is good to know that the future of app development is being bolstered by a Manchester-based course known as The App School. Creative consultant The White Room is running the free course - backed by the City Council, Cornerhouse (Manchester's centre for visual arts and cinema), and Manchester Metropolitan University - for 18- to 24-year-olds.

News that Google lost its landmark privacy case in Milan sets a dangerous precedent for freedom with YouTube and across similar sites on the web going forward. A judge imposed suspended sentences on three Google executives over the posting of a video showing an autistic child being bullied. These executives did not upload the video; it was simply uploaded in the manner that thousands of others are uploaded daily.
