Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Freshwater UK has added to its public affairs division with the hire of Emily Kavanagh, a former aide to Conservative Party MPs Richard Ottaway and Tobias Ellwood.

Most recently, Kavanagh was PR and policy executive at the Institute of Internal Auditors. She joins as senior client manager. Last year, Freshwater hired Maritime UK media and public affairs manager John Stevenson as senior client manager.

England's 2018 World Cup bid is preparing a lobbying drive around this summer's World Cup.

FIFA will hold its annual congress prior to this year's tournament, when all 24 executive committee members will be present. Andy Anson, the 2018 bid chief executive, said last week: 'It is going to be a significant lobbying opportunity. At the end of the World Cup we will see the gun fired for the final strait of lobbying.'

Citigate Dewe Rogerson Public Policy MD Simon Nayyar and B2L Public Affairs director Darren Caplan joined the shadow cabinet on the stage behind Conservative Party leader David Cameron as he delivered his keynote speech in Brighton at the weekend. Caplan has been selected as PPC for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, while Nayyar is contesting Hackney South and Shoreditch.
