Hit or Miss? Dead Man Running promoters drop fake cash in Manchester

Falling for it Shoppers in Manchester fell victim to a publicity stunt organised by the promoters of a new gangster movie starring Danny Dyer.

Hundreds of people were invited to grab what they thought was £5,000 of free money as it was thrown over a balcony in the Arndale Centre, UK's largest inner-city shopping mall. The stunt aimed to promote the DVD release of Dead Man Running, which is distributed by Revolver Entertainment.

A 'flash', geezer-esque idea like this looks perfect for a gangster film backed by footballers and starring Danny Dyer. But let's look closer. In short, the lads have realised the DVD has to come out sooner than expected and they need some serious money that folds, or the whole project's gone Pete Tong.

So, they decide to grease some palms and dish out five bags of sand - even though the Old Bill (well, the management of the shopping centre) say they bloody well can't. 'Muppets' think the fellas, 'if we want to run a promotion in a high traffic location and reach our core target market, we bloody well will'. And they do. No grans were harmed, cos the boys love 'em. Five thousand more greens were going to be splashed in Trafalgar Square this week. Can't fail, can it? Film and stunt(s) = Hackneyed. Pun intended.
