Advocacy to fight bans on animal growth products

The National Office of Animal Health, the trade association for veterinary medicine manufacturers, has hired Advocacy to lobby against proposals to ban growth promoting antibiotics. The European Union is in the process of monitoring the effect of these antibiotics, which speed up the animal digestive process, thereby affecting animals’ impact on the environment.

The House of Commons agriculture select committee recently recommended a

ban on growth promoters, while the House of Lords select committee on

science and technology has suggested they be phased out.

Advocacy, which will work on a six monthly project basis, will press the

Government to wait until the EU has completed its monitoring exercise

before legislating.
