Arriva, the recently renamed bus operator and vehicle hire company,

has brought in Gavin Anderson to handle its financial PR.

Gavin Anderson is the first retained financial agency for Arriva, which

was formerly known as the Cowie Group before a name change earlier this

year.

Arriva owns several bus operations including British Bus Group which

runs a range of local services across the UK. A bid for Lutonian Bus

Services, which runs bus services in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, is

currently being examined by the competition and consumer affairs

minister Nigel Griffiths.

The transport group provides vehicle hire services and has a finance

division which provides services such as management of company car

fleets.

Gavin Anderson will work initially on communicating the benefits of

Arriva’s restructuring which involves plans to separate its car finance

division to focus on its bus services and motor division. The finance

division will either be sold off or listed as a separate company.

Despite a series of recent acquisitions Arriva, which also re-sells hire

vehicles, has had difficulties and has had to issue profit warnings due

to a decline in used car prices. Arriva made pre-tax profits of pounds

101 million last year on a turnover of pounds 1.4 billion.
