NEWS: Perpetual seeks first retained PR

Perpetual, the Henley-based fund manager, is searching the market for its first retained public relations adviser.

Perpetual, the Henley-based fund manager, is searching the market for

its first retained public relations adviser.

The company, which saw half-yearly profits soar by 48 per cent this year

to pounds 25.2 million, has checked credentials from around five

agencies with experience in the financial services sector and hopes to

have an adviser in place next month.

Marketing manager Lindy Reynolds said Perpetual had been galvanised into

hunting for an agency following favourable press coverage during the

launch of its Income and Growth Investment Trust during February and

March.

‘We have been considering it for about a year now,’ she said, ‘But

having seen the press coverage on the investment trust launch we felt it

was a good time to review our PR requirements.’

The trust launch, which in fact fell far short of raising Perpetual’s

reported upper target of pounds 250 million, was handled by First

Financial. Reynolds declined to say whether that agency was being

considered for retainer work or to identify the other firms on the

shortlist.

However, she explained that the chosen agency would be expected to help

develop contacts with the national and trade press and advise on wider

communications issues.

Perpetual is the latest fund management firm to review its public

relations resources. Henderson Administration, Threadneedle Asset

Management and Hill Samuel Asset Management have all appointed new

agencies since the beginning of the year.
