Charles Barker BSMG has resigned its account with Saatchi and

Saatchi, after winning a European PR brief from its sister company,

advertising agency Bozell Worldwide.

Charles Barker and financial agency College Hill were appointed by

Saatchi and Saatchi in 1995 to handle crisis PR when the Saatchi

brothers, Maurice and Charles, left.

Since then Charles Barker has handled projects like the launch of the ad

agency’s web site last autumn. College Hill continues to handle

financial PR and corporate projects. College Hill also handles PR for

Cordiant Communications Group, which demerged from Saatchi and Saatchi

last year.

Charles Barker was bought by the Bozell Sawyer Miller Group last

year.

Bozell Worldwide previously used Eulogy, which pitched against Charles

Barker and Propeller Marketing Communications.

Bozell Worldwide, which has been expanding in Europe, has 29 offices in

the region and is part of True North - the US advertising group rumoured

to be in acquisition talks with Shandwick holding company International

PR.

Charles Barker account director Ross Williams will head the account,

which is understood to carry fees of around pounds 100,000. Bozell

Worldwide is the 11th largest US ad agency and its UK shop, Delaney

Fletcher Bozell, for whom Charles Barker will also work, is the 22nd

largest in the UK.

’We’re sorry to have to lose Saatchi but Bozell is a better long-term

business prospect for us, being family,’ said the agency’s chief

executive Tim Sutton.

Saatchi and Saatchi is deciding whether to appoint a replacement for

Charles Barker.
