Retail group Kingfisher has dropped one of its two financial PR

agencies - Finsbury - in favour of its long-standing retained agency

Financial Dynamics.

Kingfisher’s director of communications John Eyre said that the

relationship with Finsbury ended last week. The account is thought to

have been worth around pounds 50,000 in fees to Finsbury.

’We’ve had Finsbury working for us for about a year,’ Eyre told PR

Week.

’We took them on as an experiment to see if having two consultancies

would bring added value - to see if they could work together. It’s not

worked out’.

Eyre explained that the main problem was that journalists were confused

about which agency they should be talking to. Given the length of the

relationship between Kingfisher and FD, journalists tended to go there

rather than to Finsbury.

’Finsbury did a very good job for us - but we did find it caused

confusion,’ said Eyre.

However, while Finsbury’s role on the day-to-day business of media

relations has ended it remains unclear whether the relationship has been

severed altogether.
