Boots Healthcare International, which sells over-the-counter
medicines including Nurofen and Strepsils, has created a new PR position
to handle the brands’ image on a global basis.
Sharon Buckle, formerly group public relations manager with Boots The
Chemist has been made international PR and professional relations
manager with a remit to co-ordinate roster agencies and to develop links
with ’recommenders’ such as doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
Buckle will work alongside brand teams in managing PR agencies including
Maureen Cropper Communications, Keene Communications and Welbeck in the
UK, ACH in Spain, Mavellia in Italy and Burson-Marsteller in France. She
reports to head of PR Ian Wright, who will now concentrate on corporate
Buckle, 37, has been group PR manager since 1994 and was responsible for
launching the Boots Herbal, Homeopathic and Aromatherapy complementary
medicine ranges. She has also been a principal spokesperson for the
Community Pharmacy Action Group which opposes moves to end resale price
The over-the-counter self-medication market is worth pounds 8 billion in
Europe alone. BHI operates in 120 countries employing more than 2,000
people and spends pounds 4 million on PR for its brands each year.
