Lucas Varity, the global automotive to aerospace group, has named

Reed Elsevier corporate relations head Nicholas Jones as its new PR

chief.

The job of group communications director is a new one. It is designed to

suit Lucas Varity’s new de-centralised PR structure which was created

following the merging of the two firms last year.

Lucas Varity’s last PR head Mike Beard left his job as director of

communications after being told there would no longer be a role for him

at the company.

(PR Week, 13 September). His old 18-strong department is being replaced

by individual communications resources in Lucas Varity’s seven global

business groups.

The remaining staff of around ten may either go to a business unit or

move from Solihull to the group’s London headquarters to work for

Jones.

He will report to Lucas Varity chief executive officer Victor Rice when

he joins in April.

His remit covers corporate media relations and the co-ordination of any

major public affairs issues. Jones will also be responsible for talking

to Lucas Varity’s audiences worldwide.

While at Reed Elsevier Jones helped to execute the communications

strategy to support the Anglo-Dutch merger of Reed International and

Elsevier NV.
