Chris Hopson, Granada and LWT director of public affairs, has become the
first PR executive to join the board of Granada Media Group (GMG).
The promotion sees Hopson beome corporate affairs director for GMG - the
TV arm of the Granada Group.
At present Hopson heads a 42-strong Granada/LWT public affairs division
which manages programme publicity, internal and corporate
communications, regional affairs and government relations
His remit will now widen to include media relations, government affairs
and regulatory policy for GMG.
Hopson’s appointment is part of a re-structure by the group, which owns
ITV licensees Granada TV and LWT and its sales house Laser.
GMG has established four new divisions in order to exploit new media,
break into international markets and launch new channels.
They are Granada UK Broadcasting, Granada International Productions,
Granada Media Productions and Granada Vision.
Hopson joined Granada in 1993 as director of public affairs and took on
an expanded role when the company acquired LWT in March 1994.
His Granada/LWT public affairs department won the award for best in-
house department at last year’s PR Week Awards.
