The European Commission’s enterprise policy wing,

Directorate-General XXIII, has embarked on a public relations push aimed

at increasing awareness of its network of European Information Centres

(EICs).

DG XXIII’s new director general Michel Vanden Abeele is to visit the UK

next week in an effort to promote the services and locations of

Britain’s network of 22 EICs. A pounds 250,000 campaign to raise the

profile of the 250 centres across the European Union is already

underway.

Set up in the late 1980s, EICs offer information and advice to small and

medium sized companies - including public relations firms - on business

activity in the EU. They are supported by a variety of host

organisations such as chambers of commerce, local authorities and

universities.

The PR campaign in the UK is being supported by Norwich-based 3PR and

co-ordinated by Sarah Abercombie, head of the EICs’ communications

committee.
