DIARY: A new job title that’s virtually indistinguishable from the real thing

The weird and wired world of hi-tech public relations has given birth to a new creature that could change the face of the industry as we know it.

The weird and wired world of hi-tech public relations has given birth to

a new creature that could change the face of the industry as we know it.

Software manufacturer Insignia Solutions has given Grant Butler Coomber

account director Amanda Hassall the baffling title of virtual PR

manager.

According to GBC partner Sue Grant, Amanda’s title definitely does not

denote a public relations practitioner who is almost there, but not

quite with it.

‘It just means you don’t have to be in one location and sit at a desk

day-to-day,’ she says. ‘It’s not a world first. A lot of people do a

company’s PR functions on other premises. It’s a hot and sexy title.’

What next, I wonder? Pitching on the Internet? Pan-cyberspace accounts?
