Hill and Knowlton has appointed its first president and managing

partner for Latin America as it seeks to expand in the region.

Juan-Carlos Cappello joins H&K from the ITT Corporation where he was

senior vice-president and director of corporate relations.

Hill and Knowlton already has offices in Mexico City and Sao Paulo and

is set to open an office in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Chairman and chief

executive of H&K Howard Paster said: ’We have put a corporate structure

to a region where we have operated for many years.’

Cappello joins H&K’s worldwide executive committee as it attempts to

build up the levels of business undertaken in Latin America. ’We need to

build an interest commensurate with the increasing levels of investment

here from the US and Europe, said Cappello.

Although H&K has representation through affiliates in most Latin

American markets it is committed to a programme of establishing its own

offices in large cities. Chile is likely to follow Argentina as a market

for H&K.

Chilean-born Cappello describes Chile as ’pre-eminent’ among the South

American economies.

H&K sees Latin America as an increasingly important market due to high

levels of economic growth and increasing amounts of privatisation

work.

Cappello reports directly to Paster who oversees H&K’s 49 offices in 28

countries.
