JC Decaux, the French outdoor advertising company, has appointed
Grandfield as its first retained UK agency.
Grandfield won the account to handle corporate PR and public affairs
activities after a pitch against Lexis PR.
The move is part of a push to increase JC Decaux’s 30 per cent market
share in the UK. Spencer Berwin, JC Decaux sales manager said: ’We’ve
been active for six years in the UK. Grandfield will raise awareness of
contract wins and attractive campaigns.’
Grandfield will also work on political issues, particularly at local
government level. Good relations with local councils are vital to JC
Decaux which provides street furniture such as bus shelters in exchange
for licences to sell advertising space.
Nick Boakes, deputy managing director at Grandfield, said: ’We know JC
Decaux’s business well and understand what they want. In terms of public
affairs, decisions on street advertising are made very much at a local
level so we will focus on this element.’
Decaux’s street furniture is used by 1,000 municipal authorities in 16
countries across Europe, the US and Australia.
