Hill and Knowlton has won a four-way pitch to head up the

pan-European press office for US-owned Bausch and Lomb Eyewear, whose

products include sunglasses brands Ray-Ban, Killer Loop and Revo.

Media relations had previously been handled separately by individual

European agencies, including Shilland and Co in the UK.

Work began this month on the account, which carries a six figure

fee.

’This is the first time we have centralised our European press office

with one PR company. It will ensure that all our target media have a

central point of contact,’ said Steve Markwell, vice president of Bausch

and Lomb Eyewear Marketing for Europe.

Hill and Knowlton’s strategy for the sunglasses brands will target the

fashion press, in particular in the months running up to summer, but

will also focus on Bausch and Lomb’s cutting-edge lens technology.

The London-based press office will cover 14 European countries,

including the UK, as well as South Africa. Hill and Knowlton associate

director Nigel Jones will lead the four-person team. Jones headed Hill

and Knowlton’s one-off European launch of Porsche Design, one of Bausch

and Lomb Eyewear’s brands, last year.

Hill and Knowlton owns 21 offices across Europe and is a partner in a

further 19 European offices.
