Marketing professionals shifting from direct marketing to social media

Marketing professionals are set to invest heavily in social media in the coming year, a survey has revealed.

The sample of 1,068 marketing professionals worldwide found that 66 per cent will be investing in social media marketing (SMM) in the next year.

Of those investing, 40 per cent said that they would be shifting more than a fifth of their traditional direct marketing budget towards SMM activities.

Sixty-seven per cent said that social media were either ‘increasingly important’ or ‘critical to success’.

The survey was carried out by Alterian across Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
