INTERNATIONAL: Mobile phone body hires MMD to push standards

LONDON: International mobile phone trade body the Global Mobile Suppliers Association has hired MMD Marketing Communications to promote the Global Standard for Mobile Communications (GSM) mobile phone system worldwide.

Suppliers Association has hired MMD Marketing Communications to promote

the Global Standard for Mobile Communications (GSM) mobile phone system

worldwide.



Four other agencies pitched for the account, which is believed to carry

annual fees of more than pounds 200,000. It will be led out of the UK,

targeting correspondents from national newspapers and trade magazines

across the world.



The association’s members, which include Ericsson and Nokia, want to

ensure GSM is adopted by operators, technology suppliers, governments

and consumers worldwide.



Rival systems are Time Division Multiple Access, mainly used in the US,

and Code Division Multiple Access.



MMD will provide PR and media relations for all the association’s

activities worldwide. including a push into Latin America which has yet

to adopt a predominant mobile phone standard.



The brief includes sponsorship, exhibitions, speaker opportunities,

maintaining the association’s website and internal communications.
