Cohn and Wolfe is promoting Martin Ellis to managing director,

replacing Martin Thomas who is joining parent company Young and

Rubicam’s international media consultancy the Media Edge in the role of

director in March.

Ellis, who is currently deputy managing director and joined the agency

three years ago from sister Y&R agency Burson-Marsteller, expects to

assume his new position at the end of March.

He led the agency’s UK and European healthcare practice attracting

clients such as Eli Lilly, SmithKline Beecham and Hoechst Marion

Roussel. In his new role Ellis will continue to be involved in the

expansion of the agency’s international healthcare business.

Ellis said there would be no operational shake-up and added that the

appointment reflects the even split of business the agency now has

between healthcare, consumer and corporate work.

In the reshuffle corporate and technology division director Jonathan

Shore becomes deputy managing director.

The agency’s clients include credit company Visa, sports goods

manufacturer Reebok and beer brand Stella Artois.

The Media Edge, which used to be primarily a media buying business,

becomes a separate Y&R company in February. Thomas will concentrate on

building the company’s PR, sponsorship, promotions and event marketing

capability.

He will lead a team of up to 200.
