Opinion: From our Readers - Happy to help council papers to reduce costs

I agree with Alex Aiken (prweek.com/uk, 20 January) that councils are not to blame for the decline in local newspapers; there are many stronger reasons for the changes in media consumption habits over the past 20 years.

Here in Tower Hamlets, we have published East End Life, our free weekly community newspaper, for 15 years.

I too am astounded to read that a council is publishing a regular publication that costs £1m a year. If that council or any other would like help and advice on how to reduce costs and achieve value for money on direct communications with residents, then we at Tower Hamlets are always happy to help.
