Opinion: From our Readers - Focus on public affairs regulation is welcome

We welcome the focus of shadow Cabinet Office minister Nick Hurd on how the public affairs industry will regulate itself (News, 15 January) and recognise the importance of the Public Affairs Council having the confidence of all parties.

This is why we are in favour of transparency within the public affairs profession and strongly believe in its ability to regulate itself. We are working with the PRCA and APPC to create a Public Affairs Council that encompasses all paid lobbyists, has a strong independent element, inspires public confidence and distinguishes between those lobbyists who are ethical and transparent, and those who are not.
