The Week in Charities

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, a care and support services charity, has appointed Sonya Roberts as head of communications.

She will oversee national awareness-raising campaigns, including the launch of the young carers in education campaign in March, and will help relaunch the website in the summer. Roberts was previously senior media and comms consultant at the Parkinson's Disease Society.

Capacitybuilders has brought in Amazon PR to develop and deliver its Improving Support magazine, which is available free to people involved in supporting, funding or commissioning third sector organisations. The agency won the business following a competitive pitch.

Samaritans and Network Rail have announced a five-year partnership to reduce the number of suicides on the railways. The pair will run national comms campaigns targeting high risk groups, to increase awareness of Samaritans' support services for those who feel suicidal. They will also work with the media to ensure responsible reporting of suicides, to reduce the likelihood of copycat suicides.

Gala Coral Group has raised £1m for Sue Ryder Care and has committed to another 12 months of CSR support.
