Public Affairs: Policy chief for wine body

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association has hired an aide to shadow home secretary Chris Grayling for the role of policy manager.

Laura Davies joins from her role as a special adviser to Grayling. Before working for Grayling, she was a policy adviser at the Federation of Small Businesses and analyst at the Home Office.

Davies joins the WSTA as it fights off proposals for minimum pricing of alcohol. The drinks industry has been on the offensive after the House of Commons health select committee backed minimum pricing to tackle binge drinking.

Davies' arrival coincides with the departure of policy adviser Stephen Hogg, who is moving to the Home Office.
